Idea Fair
Girls' Golf Club
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Keeping young girls interested in golf is a challenge to golf professionals have been working on for years. In 2022, we found a way to combine learning golf, socializing with friends, and making arts and crafts into a club and the concept for the ‘Girls’ Golf Club’ was born. The Girls Golf Club meets for a two hour gathering once a month. During the first half the focus is on the short game and full swing instruction with games. The second half is arts & crafts while socializing over food and drinks. Some of the projects have included painting picture frames, "I AM" posters, thank you and birthday cards, friendship rocks and building gingerbread houses. During our December Girls’ Golf Club, we had a Holiday Party when each girl brought a gift to donate to the Children’s National Hospital Gift Closet. They also decorated cookies and did a gift exchange.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Director of Junior Golf and the golf team have collaborated to execute the events for the club. There was an overwhelming reaction from the parents and Congo Kids, and the club grew to 60 girls in just 5 months. Due to the fast growth and popularity, we now have the Girls’ Golf Club twice a month to allow more girls to participate.
