Golf Course Technology Enhancements
Winner
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Woodfield recently unveiled its brand-new, completely renovated practice facility and golf course. To protect the new assets, Woodfield has employed the use of various technology systems and devices, including:
- Visage GPS Unit – Installed on each golf cart. Allows communication from the Club to each cart with posted messages. Provides daily pin placement and calculates yardage. The unit also communicates course restrictions to the golfer.
- Course Ranger Sticker – Installed on each golf cart. Utilizes Bluetooth technology to monitor access to the golf course and track pace of play. Signal posts on each hole indicate a player’s pace of play position by illuminating green, yellow or red.
- Enhanced Wi-Fi – Wi-Fi throughout the course aids in device connectivity.
- Security Cameras – Cameras throughout the course decrease the need for a staff member to continually monitor the course.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
These technology systems and devices are used to:
- Monitor Access to the Golf Course
- Enforce Golf Course Rules
- Monitor Pace of Play
- Protect the Course from Unnecessary Wear
Use of these systems and devices saves labor costs by reducing the number of staff members needed to monitor the course. Additionally, by helping to protect the course from unnecessary wear, the Club saves on turf remediation costs.
These systems also provide a benefit to Members by keeping pace of play consistent; providing accurate yardage and pin placement; and protecting the course for the best possible playing conditions.
