Idea Fair
Gov Shutdown USCG Food Drive
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Federal Government shutdown, which started on Saturday December 22, 2018 caused US Coast Guard personnel not to be paid. As a result, many service members and their families experienced extreme hardship. On Friday, 25 January and Saturday, 26 January 2019 Army Navy Country Club supported a local Coast Guard command by establishing a donations collection point in the parking lot at its Arlington, VA campus.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
ANCC Members and staff dropped off dry goods, canned goods and items suitable for young children (diapers and toys) to the donations collection point that the Club had established in the parking lot of its’ Arlington, VA campus. There were enough donations to fill 6 truckloads. In addition, financial donations such as gift cards/certificates and checks totaling $6,000 were made. ANCC members are incredibly proud of the club’s rich history - going back almost 100 years - of supporting service members and their families. This effort to support US Coastguard families was yet another example of our member’s generosity. While the shutdown may have ended, its effects will linger for long.
