Idea Fair
Grinch Pajama and Breakfast Party
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The holidays are surrounded by so many options for events to attend and often carry a heavier price tag and holiday attire. This event was added to provide a fun, casual atmosphere for our young and junior members at the club. The Grinch came to the Club and read How the Grinch Stole Christmas, while parents and kids alike enjoyed a whimsical breakfast. Over 100 parents and children attended the event dressed in pajamas and Christmas sweaters to enjoy. This added a very casual and inexpensive event to our holiday calendar that our membership was excited to attend.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The party was promoted 3 weeks ahead of time to draw immediate excitement, but not get lost in all the other holiday events going on. As the Club does not typically serve breakfast, we chose a breakfast event and invited the membership to come dressed in pajamas or Christmas sweaters to keep it as simple as possible.
The Club worked with a local talent group to hire the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Thing 1 & Thing 2, Cat in the Hat. The Grinch read How the Grinch Stole Christmas out of a 3 foot custom-made story book to the kids and families and interacted with the kids throughout the story. All the characters then helped the kids with several crafts, including creating a Grinch- themed ornament for their trees at home. Parents and children alike had a blast taking photos and interacting with the characters and are looking forward to the same or a similar event next year.
