Idea Fair
Haunted House
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Each year, The Kansas City Country Club hosts a family Halloween party. We have struggled to get attendance from families with children 10 and older in years prior when our activity rooms failed to provide sufficient scares for the youngsters.
In 2017, we wanted to up our game and provide a one-of-a-kind experience to families of all ages. Our Clubhouse was built in 1926 and offers a perfect setting to stage a haunted house. The attic creaks and squeaks and many of the rooms that previously housed staff have been converted into storage space.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
In order to create our event, we put together a committee of staff to dream up our execution. The Haunted House began with the scary story tour guides would tell. From there, we broke the spaces into sections and gave each a unique theme.
Once we had a vision, it was time to make it come to life. For about $600 in materials, we were able to create a fantastic haunted house that achieved higher than expected results. The creativity and talent of the staff was truly impressive.
The employees that put the event together also worked the haunted house for the duration of the event. Our staff took a great deal of pride in creating a fun and memorable experience for the members that will hopefully become a tradition for years to come.
The feedback from the membership was fantastic. The Haunted House will be back again in 2018 and we look to improve upon our last event.
