How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

SAFE AT HOME? MAYBE NOT: People often think it would be great to work from home. Well, in 2020, many had that opportunity—and subsequently discovered just how quickly that novelty wears off. Focusing on your work and being productive proved to be difficult when many families also had children working on school from home. One person working from home can be sustainable, but who could have prepared for three, four or five people working from home? Zoom calls, live streams and Spotify playing all day really bog down a home network. At the same time, our Club was staring at an empty hotel thinking of ways to fill rooms overnight.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

SUDDENLY, AN INN-SIGHT: But what about during the day? What followed was a creative alternative to our typical hotel operations model. Our club certainly has the infrastructure, both electronic and physical. As nice as a member home may be, it’s hard to compete with the in-house amenities a club can offer. Room service, fitness, a coffee shop, business services and a staff at the ready? All features not available at a home office or even at the traditional offices members are used to. To ensure an efficient visit, we also included complimentary office supply kits with everything from paperclips to file folders to phone. Sure, a family eating at the kitchen table is a pretty picture. But that same family, working at the same table? Decidedly less so.

A HOME RUN: The response to our day-use rooms was tremendous, allowing us us to expand upon the idea. Although the DAC has a substantial business center, many members’ traditional offices were closed. This caused ours to fill up quickly, leaving some without a place to take even brief calls. We’ve continued to be amenable and allow bookings for brief periods for members who only need to take a couple of calls or those who would like a more private setting for less than the entire day. We also allowed members to extend their office visit into an overnight stay at discounted rates. This program gave us an opportunity to exceed member expectations and help them be more comfortable and more productive.
