Idea Fair
Junior Golf
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The idea of this expanded Junior Program was to increase member retention, enhance the overall experience by offering more opportunities for families at the Club and cultivating the love of the game of golf in order to increase participation at the Club.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Golf Professionals added two new aspects to our Junior Program and enhanced two existing aspects. Wacky & Pee Wee Golf introduced 4 to 7 year olds to the game and utilized large, colorful equipment. The launch of our Club's first PGA Junior Team took the most enthusiastic of young players with a marked skill increase to compete against area clubs. The team consisted of both girls and boys. The Junior Club Champion, a long existing part of the program, was divided this year into two flights - 13 & Under and 13-17. This allowed for our younger children a more attained goal and our teens a more competitive field among their peers. Our Thursday Clinics, offered to children 7-12, were enhanced by dividing the participants into skill level based groups. The lessons provided to each group were focused on growing existing skills as well as challenging each group to advance to the next level.
The membership has embraced and praised the revised program and the Club saw a marked increase in participation within the Junior Program this year. The Program has become so popular that we have added a Junior Program Chair to our Golf Committee. Not only has the Club benefitted through the increased golf revenue through dues and greens fees, our food & beverage sales also saw a sharp increase in the times during and after program times.
