Idea Fair
Kids in the Kitchen
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
One evening a month, we invite 15 children into the kitchen to work with our chefs to learn the basics of cooking in a fun way. Topics that have been completed or are on the calendar thus far in 2018 include making Rice Krispy Treats from scratch, Homemade Pasta, St Patrick’s Day Green Themed Mystery Basket, Creating the 2018 Pool Snack bar Signature Dish, and May the Fourth Be With You: Star Wars Cooking.
This idea has helped lead the charge in our Youth Programming here at Myers Park. This monthly series has become a staple event that parents are rushing to sign their children up for, and increases our foot traffic by providing an opportunity for the parents to dine in another area of the club while their children are enjoying the event.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Each class starts with a short safety lesson held by the chefs. Kids are given a chef hat with their name on it, and an Apron for the evening. The response to this event has been overwhelmingly positive. The first two classes were sold out within a day of the initial promotion, and parents are constantly looking ahead to when the next classes will be. The kids love the series, and are always excited to be in the kitchen at the Club. This also provides kids the opportunity to take home what they learn and continue to grow their culinary skills with their families. Parents are required to stay on property, so this also provides a small date night out for them in one of our other dining outlets.
