New Year’s Eve is typically a sold-out grand gala at Cosmos Club. This year, with indoor gathering restrictions, the Club hosted a carry out event coinciding with a Zoom event. Organized by staff with assistance from the Club’s French Group, a one hour Zoom event starting at 5 pm EST rung in the new year, culminating with fireworks that were live from Paris at 6 pm EST (midnight Paris time).

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The Club made the carry out meals available to members for pick up on New Year’s Eve during the day so they could be ready for the event. Members were encouraged to dress in their finest and treat the event as if they were coming to the Club. The one hour Zoom included member welcomes, a French musical performance, traditional toasts, and fireworks at midnight in Paris. The Club served more than 250 carry out meals and members were happy to continue a valued Club tradition of gathering for New Year’s Eve.
