Idea Fair
Little Legends in the Making
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
While most clubs have their Junior Camp program in place for the summer, at RCC we take it one step further with Specialty Schools. Offering to children aged 7 and up, our Specialty School program takes place after our regularly scheduled Junior Camp, allowing participation in both and giving kids an added opportunity to hone in on one specific hobby or skill. Our professional staff is committed to providing a fun and welcoming environment where children can meet their goals and achieve their full potential all while enjoying the social atmosphere and cultivating friendships. We currently offer Specialty Schools in Golf, Tennis, Fishing/Crabbing and Sailing. Each school varies in their length and schedule, as golf runs the longevity of summer while fishing/crabbing is a one week intensive.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Our Specialty Schools have been extremely successful since their introduction a few years ago. This past summer we were thrilled to have 101 family memberships (most with multiple children), join our journey. Our main goal of these schools is to develop “little legends” in each field that will have pathways to continue growing in the sport should they desire. The parents of these children are extremely supportive of these programs as they help foster passion and drive within the children as well easing the burden of childcare for working parents by taking place M-F during working hours. One of the best parts about this program is the wide range of age groups allowing children to return to a Specialty School year after year. We love to see the children continue their interest outside of the summer Specialty Schools by taking the skills they learned and joining their parents on the course, courts or water all year round!
