Meet the Fleet

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Meet the Fleet was an event held at the beginning of summer to familiarize new Club members with all available waterfront amenities. As a yacht club, it is of primary importance that we continue to foster and encourage the sport of sailing and all other yachting activities. BHYC has a variety of Club-owned sailboats and other watercraft at the disposal of the entire membership.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Meet the Fleet was hosted by BHYC’s Fleet Captain and took shape as an “open house” style event that welcomed the entire membership to come out to the Club and learn about all the boats and waterfront amenities available. The main goal was to ensure members knew what was available and were comfortable using the available crafts and equipment. The day featured hands-on seminars centered around sailing and yachting activities led by member volunteers. Our Harbormaster, Dockmaster and Sailing Professional attended to introduce themselves to new members and share their willingness to assist them whenever needed.

With over 50 members in attendance, this inaugural event was an overwhelming success. Seeing members return to the club throughout the summer and utilize the vessels and amenities showcased during the event was especially rewarding.

Other clubs can take advantage of this model by creating a showcase-style event to ensure that new members understand and are comfortable with the amenities available around the club.
