Idea Fair

MID Program

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

This year’s MID program is structured as a mentor/mentee style relationship. Each of CCC’s three Managers in Development were paired with an Assistant Clubhouse Manager to meet with one on one each week. Every week, each MID submits their “Week in Review,” a small write-up that reflects on what they learned and experienced that week, and any questions they have. The MIDs and Assistant Clubhouse Managers also get together for a group education session based on the MID’s curiosities outlined in their Week in Reviews. Meetings typically cover upcoming events/logistics, meeting with department heads, and F&B topics. The group also read the book Permission to Screw Up by Kristen Hadeed as a team leading up to attending the CMAA Carolinas Chapter Fall Conference where Kristen was one of the presenters!

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The Mentor/Mentee approach has allowed for an individualized experience and focus on growth and goals within the program. MID’s build leadership skills starting in a front-line service role to understand the day-to-day operations and member interactions. As individuals progress, they have the opportunity to shadow managers to gain insights into decision making and leadership. Gradually taking on more responsibility, with demonstrated readiness, the MIDs start to lead the service team in multiple food and beverage outlets. By dividing MID programming between multiple managers, it allows for a balanced set of manager responsibilities, greater manager ownership/involvement in the program, and more one on one time spent with each MID. The MID’s have positively impacted the service provided to the membership and leading by example for the others on the team.
