Idea Fair
Millionaire Launch Party
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Launch Party Description: University of Ocean Reef Club’s Gameshow Launch Party was designed as a multipurpose initiative to not only highlight and showcase our incredible summer training line up, but to enthuse associates about learning and development, encourage greater participation of our training series, enlighten associates (new and veteran) on club history, standards and services, and most importantly remind staff of the ‘unique way of life’ that is ORC. The gameshow involved all senior leadership and was hosted by the Training and Quality Control leaders. The end result was a version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire worthy of a returned spot on prime time television, complete with professional lighting, dramatic music, and quality optics!
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
With the help of department leaders and our history books, 100 different trivia questions along with multiple choice answers were drafted and organized onto a purchased PowerPoint in an order that increased in difficulty. We then met with our Cultural Center Team, Ocean Reef Club is fortunate to have within our community a 300 person theater run by a team of professionals; in meeting with them, our AV and Audio team made sure to precure to most perfect lights and sounds to best match the famous TV show. Calendar invites were sent to our Vice Presidents and they were locked in as a ‘Phone a Friend’ lifeline. All club leaders were encouraged to manage their department’s schedules with a goal to have every team member attend one of the four “shows” over the course of two days. QR codes were emailed and posted around the club so our associates could register for a show with an option to be a potential contestant. Day of the show, club leadership welcomed associates from all departments into the Cultural Center and ushered them to a seat, contestants sat in a separate row and were called at random to come up to the stage and take the “hot seat”. Before each “show” our gameshow hosts (Director of Training and Director of Quality Control) would welcome everyone, introduce this summer’s University of Ocean Reef Club concepts and program and explain the rules of the game. Contestants were selected at random on stage and each had the chance to win up to $2,000 for their department. Winnings were used to host an internal department excursions, activities, or lunches.
The Results: With four shows, we hosted a total of 400 associates. The entire associate body was abuzz for weeks talking about which trivia questions they knew and which they were stumped by, many boasted about their team member making it to the highest round. The bar had been set high for what associates could anticipate as far the quality and commitment to our training program and classes. Within the first two weeks of our UORC program we had had almost as many attendees in classes as we had had for the entire summer prior. In 2024 UORC hosted a total of 250 training hours. Associate’s interest in all things ORC facts, history and trivia has been greatly heightened and their energy for learning is at an all-time high. Feedback poured in as associates put in requests for various gameshows in the future and gushed about how much fun they had, some asking how they could study for the next game show opportunity.
