Idea Fair
Mini-Mulligan Tournament Series
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Mini-Mulligan event series was invented as a way to get our ‘littlest’ golfers on the golf course for their first tournament experience. The juniors, ranging in age from 3-7 years old, participated in 3-hole golf tournaments with each hole set to 50 yards or less. Parents participated as ‘caddies’ and play was followed by an after play scoring party that catered to both the juniors and their ‘caddies’. The Mini-Mulligans gave our golf professionals the opportunity to engage with not only the youngest golfers of the club but their parents as well. These events challenged our juniors by introducing them to positive competition and on course etiquette in a fun way.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
There were four events scheduled from June-September and each event had a larger field than the last: smallest event had 14 golfers and the largest had 30. The entire event took approximately two hours, from tee off to handing out the medals, which was just enough time to keep everyone happy. This Mini-Mulligan series turned into a great promotion for our junior program as well as a fun introduction to “tournament” golf for our future super stars!
