Molok® Waste Management Solution
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
When the Granite Club sought to modernize its waste management system, the expectations were high: find a solution with both environmental and logistical benefits that wouldn’t clash with the Club’s aesthetic and would cause minimal disruption for Members.
The answer? The Molok® waste management solution; semi-underground disposal units that deliver state-of-the-art methods for waste disposal. Best described as a series of individual silos, approximately 60% of the waste is housed underground, which not only saves space, but minimizes odours and keeps away unwanted critters. Each unit can hold up to 20% more waste thanks to gravity, which compacts it naturally with its weight. Finally, lift-based emptying by disposal trucks helps improve work safety (there is no manual work or lifting involved and waste materials such as sharp objects remain contained).
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Molok® disposal units were installed in spring of 2024, which was communicated to Members via email. A brick facade, matching the Clubhouse’s brick, was built in front of the waste units to preserve the Club’s modern look and provide a more visually appealing exterior for Members—and there were many practical benefits, too! The containers were placed adjacent to the Club’s main receiving dock, yet tucked out of the way of the vehicular exit lane (which sees over 2,000 vehicles daily). Fewer waste pick-ups translated to reduced fuel consumption, fewer emptying personnel, quieter disposal, and reduced CO₂ emissions. Additionally, fewer collection trips reduced the Club’s carbon footprint and long-term operational costs.
