Myth Busters: Host an Interactive Open House
Description
There are many myths about Pilates, for instance: "Pilates is a bunch of torture equipment," "It is just for seniors," "It is a women's workout," and "The Pilates Center is a torture chamber." To bust these myths, we hosted an open house so members could drop in and learn more about Pilates in a comfortable, non-judgmental, non-scheduled, and free environment.
Implementation
Our members were invited to try Reformers, Cadillacs, Spring Boards, and the MOTR during a two-hour open house. Giving members a casual environment to explore equipment with certified instructors caused Pilates to become far less intimidating. During the open house, we had 30 member visits in two hours. As a result of the open house, eight members subscribed to the Pilates newsletter, seven registered for classes on the spot, and two came back the next day to begin a Pilates journey.
