New Hire Experience Roadmap
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
We constantly recruit new staff members for full-time, part-time, or seasonal employment at Baltimore Country Club. Each department has unique hiring needs, sometimes leading to communication breakdowns between the teams involved in the candidate’s interview experience. In early 2024, our Executive Team collaborated to analyze and break down the hiring process to see where these communication gaps arise. From this analysis, the New Hire Experience Roadmap was developed, starting from the hiring manager notifying Human Resources Team of recruitment needs to the departmental onboarding of the new staff member. The roadmap is aimed to create a warm, welcoming, and consistent experience for all candidates/potential new hires. By implementing this roadmap, we have ensured a seamless and efficient process that reflects our commitment to excellence and hospitality.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
In spring 2024, our Human Resources Team introduced the New Hire Experience Roadmap to the entire Leadership Team during one of our Leadership Meetings. This initiative was supported by a visually appealing and user-friendly roadmap designed by our Communications Team, along with additional collateral to streamline the hiring and onboarding process. The supporting materials include a staff candidate card and email templates for management to use throughout the process. Provided to our Welcome House Team, the staff candidate card includes a parking diagram and helpful information for candidates upon arrival, guiding them smoothly to the clubhouse for their interview.
Our Leadership Team appreciates receiving the tools to interview and onboard new staff properly. With this roadmap, all ambiguity has been eliminated. It doesn’t matter what role is being recruited for, the process does not change. The responsibility primarily falls on the leaders, giving them a greater stake in the process and fostering stronger buy-in when selecting their staff. The new staff members appreciate the communication and interaction from the start with their potential leader. It has helped strengthen the relationship and trust between leaders and new staff.
