Idea Fair
BHYC's New Orlop Bar
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
With outdoor dining being the only dining service available through the summer, BHYC decided to make use of the best resource they already had: dock space. To provide more beverage service to the members, BHYC created a full outdoor bar on the lowest deck - the Orlop Bar. The Orlop Bar gave members more opportunities to enjoy themselves at the Club safely, and allowed BHYC to make up for lost income.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
BHYC began by repurposing a beautiful, wooden bar from a section of the property that hadn’t been receiving much use. It was designed to fit perfectly on the Orlop level. The Orlop level is fully covered and sits adjacent to the Main Dock, making it a prime location for those who were enjoying Dockside Dining or an evening on their vessel. This full bar allowed BHYC to offer an al fresco cocktail experience, sometimes with live music. Socially distanced seating was available and waitress service was provided. The membership took full advantage of the Orlop Bar and it quickly became a favorite location to hangout before or after dinner. The ease of setup and ability to open the bar regardless of the weather will make this a new hub of member socialization for years to come.
