Old Town Club Takes Over Camp Cheerio!

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

This annual family weekend is unique in that it brings members’ families together, away from the club. The family bonding is special as they participate in all the activities together. This is not a place you can go if you are not part of a group, so it brings a value to the club membership that we can offer this outing. While on property families can participate in archery, riflery, rock climbing, fishing, canoeing, hiking. They are complexly unplugged for a weekend.

How was this idea implemented and what have been the club members' reactions?

We started this family outing in 2013 after seeing the camp used for a group outing, and we have grown from 8 families to an expected 35 this year. Members love it and encourage others to come each year, saying it’s “the best weekend they’ve had.” This is just another example in how a club can facilitate a milestone moment.
