Idea Fair
Our Own Draft Beer
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Five years ago Army Navy Country Club moved into a new clubhouse and wanted a special way to commemorate this milestone. Club management came up with the idea of having our own beer which, following a naming contest, was called 1924 Lager after the year the club was founded. Members have a lot of pride in their club when entertaining guests and being able to offer them our own beer.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Working with Fordham & Dominion brewery (Dover, DE) we conducted tastings to identify the brew we believed would be most popular with the members. This was launched on draft in 2013 and is nowadays our best selling beer (members have 10 draft beer options in total). Members have been asking to have the beer available in bottles almost since we first launched it. In 2017 we made 1924 available by bottle after successfully going through the stringent Virginia ABC liquor licensing application process. Available in cases of 24 bottles (4 x six packs) beer have 'taken off' as members buy the brew to consume at home. In addition we now offer 1924 bottles at our many bars for weddings and other special events. It's been a home run!
