Outdoor Fitness
Description
Like many other Clubs, Paradise Valley was faced with the issue of not having enough space in the Fitness Center. Sports Director, Christine Curtis, and the Fitness Committee came up with a plan to put the gravel area behind the building to use. The gravel was replaced with outdoor sports turf and a 10 by 20 foot customized shipping container was added to the area to create an outstanding outdoor functional fitness environment.
- Customized Aire Fitness® Outdoor Studio
- An extension of the Fitness Center with 1,500 more square feet added
- Outdoor fitness with professional fitness equipment: Weighted sled, TRX straps, medicine balls, battle ropes, speed bag, heavy bag, and more
- Endless programming opportunities: Functional Training, Circuit Classes, Boot Camp, Personal Training, TPI Golf Fitness, Ladies Group
- Contributes to the goal of a more sustainable Club by up cycling unused shipping containers
Implementation
After attending fitness conferences and already knowing the growing trend of outdoor fitness, the brainchild for an outdoor functional fitness environment started to sprout. With approval from the Fitness Committee the plan moved forward. The Club worked with Aire Fitness® to customize the 10 by 20 foot shipping container, received bids on outdoor sports turf, ordered umbrella shades, updated the curbs for safety and added speed bumps.
The membership was blown away by the transformation of the space. 100% positive feedback. The cost compared to physically expanding the fitness center building was minimal. The Club provides personal training and small group classes for all age and fitness levels using the outdoor space. When training outdoors, the membership also enjoys the benefits of sunshine. Fresh outdoor air and natural light invigorate and provide more energy for the mind and body. Sunshine provides the vitamin D that the body needs. The Club and membership could not be happier with the transformation and addition of the outdoor fitness area.
