Pickleball Index Ladder
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Using a unique algorithm, the Pickleball Index Ladder ranks players by skill level and improves comradery by creating a chance for lower-level players to play with top-level players. Unlike a traditional ladder, the system improves social interaction, increases excitement and opportunity for improvement, and gives all participants an equal shot at making the top court on any given day. As a result, participation has grown and more members are enrolling in private lessons after becoming inspired to improve their game.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Pickleball Index Ladder was developed after a member expressed feeling “stuck” utilizing a traditional ladder system. The new system, using index scores, fairly aligns high and low-level players against one another during the first round of play. For round two, players are reorganized. Those who performed the best in round one compete on the top court, while lower-performing players compete on the bottom court. After round two, players are awarded an index score that is then utilized by the algorithm to update and revise the index ladder.
Members have loved the new system as it creates more advancement opportunities while widening the competitive field. Farmington pros have used the system to properly seed players in Farmington’s tournaments and events and were excited to see that nearby clubs have adopted Farmington’s Pickleball Index Ladder to improve play throughout the local area.
