Idea Fair
Pickleball Open Play
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Pickleball Open Play is a format where members sign up to play pickleball as an individual and professional staff facilitates rotating games with other members of similar skill level. Open Play supplements traditional foursome play, league play, and instruction, providing an ideal alternative for members looking to play the sport more socially.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Open Play was added to the weekly pickleball program calendar and consistently filled up the number available spots. A group size of 16-24 players on four to six courts was ideal because it allowed players to be accurately separated based on level while also allowing a large, social, feel for the group overall. Other elements that added value to the sessions were the inclusion of music and professional staff participation (both arranging the player groups and also filling in as a fourth as needed). In addition to the experience of participating in the sessions, members have also appreciated the convenience of not having to set up their own games and opportunity to meet other players at their level.
