Idea Fair
Pop-Up Pizza Kitchen
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Bay Head Yacht Club purchased two new Ooni Pizza Ovens to create an additional al fresco dining option. This portable pizza pop-up provided the Club with a low-cost option to expand dining services to a location that would typically not serve food. The portability of the ovens allowed for set up at different locations around the property, which proved useful in relieving stress from the kitchen on nights with full service a la carte as well as additional food and beverage events. The ovens were set up on specific pop-up dates which were relayed to the membership via social media and word of mouth the day of or before the dining option would be offered.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
BHYC’s Pop-Up Pizza Kitchen provided the Club with an extra revenue stream that would not have been captured through our traditional dining layout. Aside from being an opportunity to capture extra revenue, it allowed the service and food quality to remain at the high standard of the BHYC dining experience by easing pressure on the kitchen when normal capacity was met, rather than expanding normal a la carte service to unsustainable levels.
The membership absolutely loved the opportunity for a casual, al fresco (weather permitting) dining space. It was especially popular with younger members who would much rather just “pop” by on a Saturday evening than plan for a sit-down dinner. Throughout the summer, BHYC received numerous calls inquiring about when the next Pizza Pop-Up would be held and the demand lasted through the entire season. BHYC plans to bring this dining option back and potentially even expand it as a regular dining option.
