Idea Fair
Restbreak Half Court Shots
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Half Court Shots--We love giveaways at Champions Run. At the beginning of the summer we were looking for a unique concept that could become a staple at the pool. We were intrigued by how sporting programs run their half time promotions (i.e. a lucky contestant can shoot a half-court shot to win a car, or college tuition or $10,000), and thought, “Hey! Let’s apply something like this at Champions Run.” Thus, the half-court rest break shot was born. Every rest break (safety break) at the pool, one child and one adult are chosen to shoot a half-court shot. If a kid makes the shot he will win free slushies or popsicles for all the kids at the pool. However, if an adult makes the shot, they win free margaritas for each of the adults at the pool. Let’s just say the half-court shot has definitely become a staple at the pool in the summer.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We implemented the idea after purchasing a pool basketball hoop. We wanted to do something fun and energetic on the weekends, and the half-court shot fit the bill. The members love volunteering to shoot the half-court shot. It occurs Friday-Sunday, every hour. Whenever it’s announced, everyone crowds around the pool to see who is shooting the ball and watch the fun. Whenever someone makes the shot, the pool deck erupts with excitement! Next, everyone is charging to the pool cafe to get their free item! It was a hit all summer!
