Revitalized Team Onboarding
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
We’ve reimagined our onboarding process with input from our managers, ensuring it meets the needs of every department and sets new team members up for success. The new system focuses on four key areas: pre-employment, with clear steps and a detailed checklist for hiring managers; standardized communications, now streamlined with templates and merge fields integrated into emails; post-hire steps, including peer shadowing and an essentials-only tour, designed to equip new staff with the tools and resources they need to excel while also prioritizing their well-being; and a comprehensive team orientation to foster connection and understanding of WAC culture. Held quarterly, orientations include a warm welcome from leadership, a club tour, benefit and emergency procedure reviews, headshots, Club swag, and a chance to order lunch from our menu. We gave new team members a detailed orientation guide to take with them and skipped the power points, opting to focus on a more personal approach with our presenting managers and new team members. We also integrated icebreakers, which helped the orientation be engaging and fun. Afterward, we surveyed the group. Respondents said they are more aware of the Club's operations and have a better connection with their colleagues.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We implemented this idea by creating a detailed SOP and checklist, which we saved alongside our current employment documents and distributed to hiring managers. To ensure a smooth rollout, we hosted a half-day training session for hiring managers, walking them through the new process, including how to utilize the standardized communications in their emails. For our first orientation, we created an invitation and welcomed all team members hired within the year. Moving forward, new hires will receive their orientation date as part of their initial communications.
