Idea Fair
Scotch and Steak
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
This fall, Bay Head Yacht Club held a unique, exclusive dinner pairing Macallan scotch and BHYC steak. The magic to this event was not only the creativity of the event, but how all of the departments of the Club came together to create an intimate, unforgettable dinner.
Small but special, 20 members joined together in the Wardroom, resembling a study with wooden walls, comfortable furniture, a fireplace and family burgees hanging from the ceiling panels. The room held one large, long table, allowing for members of each party to get to know each other and meet new people.
First, the idea was brought to the table by the beverage managers. They worked hard to pick the perfect scotch vendor to come share the experience and teach the members about the scotch pairings. Once the courses of scotch were chosen, Chef Rich created a menu to pair with each course. He then gave the menu to the Director of Member Relations who designed a unique menu with the help of the maintenance staff and Dock Master crew, who crafted and branded each menu in house and by hand, adding a personal touch to the event. As the members enjoyed each course, they were told about the scotch pairing and why that particular scotch was the best fit for that course.
The decor was done by our Event Coordinator who sourced used cigar boxes as flower holders, re-purposing our resources beautifully. Candles were placed as accents along the tables. The dessert course of the event featured chocolate cigars in their own box. The tables in the room were replaced with long, wooden tables that were not clothed to go with the style of the dinner
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Members that attended this event raved about the night, explaining the delicious food, amazing scotch and beautiful decor, but most comments received reflected on how the members were able to sit at a small table and make friends with members they did not know before.
