Idea Fair
Silent Disco
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Champions Run is known throughout Omaha for its legendary New Year’s Bash. We’ve had up to 1000 guests in the past years! However, we wanted to enhance our legendary party even more. Averaging well over 600 people in attendance each New Year’s Eve, we had been doing the same thing with the same bands for the last four years. This time we decided to add in a Silent Disco as part of our entertainment. What is a silent disco? Imagine going into a room where everyone is dancing with headphones on. No music is playing out of any speakers, yet, there are three DJ’s on a stage in front of you. As you put on your headphones, you quickly realize the DJ’s are playing all sorts of musical varieties, and you have the capability of picking whichever DJ to whom you’d like to listen. That’s when you notice that everyone in the room is dancing to different music! It was one of the most fun-filled activities we have ever offered.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The implementation of the idea began when we found a partner with whom we were able to rent the headsets from, for only $5 a headset! When it came to our three DJ’s, they happened to be some of our summer pool staff, playing predetermined playlists full of hit songs. As a member walked in, they received a headset with a quick tutorial on how to use it. Throughout the night, DJ’s threw out glow sticks, shot off confetti canons and rocked a ton of special effects! At one point in the evening we were counting over 50 people waiting in line, just trying to get into the event. Since this was a first for the club, we had only rented 60 headsets, but we quickly realized that for next year we will need to rent a whole lot more! Over the next few weeks, people constantly raved about the event and now members want to do them for many of their own holiday parties held at our club!
