Solpak Biodegradable Food Packaging
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Committed to being a steward of the environment, the Granite Club made it a priority to seek out sustainable packaging for its various food service outlets. Solpak offers compostable and biodegradable packaging solutions that are usually employed in larger institutions such as schools and hospitals. Solpak is specially formulated to withstand high and low temperatures, so packaged food can be frozen and/or reheated directly in the container. It is high-quality, durable and designed to maintain the integrity of the food, ensuring that our members receive the freshest possible meals. It is easy and convenient for the Culinary Team to efficiently package and deliver take-out orders, from a simple hard-boiled egg to a complete meal. It is also used for our many children’s camps, making it easy for our counselors to serve fresh meals to 20 children at once while accommodating individual dietary needs. Clean-up is quick and easy as the whole package is biodegradable. On top of these benefits, the packaging is cost-effective.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Solpak is used throughout the club’s dining and snack shop outlets for take-out meals, leftover containers, camp lunches, and our Granite to Go Home take-home heat-and-eat meals. Members and employees alike have greatly benefited from its convenience and ease of use, increasing satisfaction for both. The variety and quality of take-home food items has increased thanks to the ability to retain freshness, and members can microwave food directly in the package, unlike the previous foil packaging. The reduction of landfill waste and minimizing our carbon footprint align with our Core Value of Environment. Switching from previous packaging options to Solpak has offset the rising cost of food and allowed the club to maintain stability in its pricing for members; for example, reducing the cost of providing ready-to-heat meals by 88%!
