Sporting Clays Invitational
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Launched in 2022, and expanded in 2023, The Country Club of Buffalo Sporting Clays Invitational brings together teams of sporting clays enthusiasts from top private clubs across the Northeast and Midwest. Two full days of team and individual competitions are hosted on CCB’s five sporting clays fields - Trap, Skeet, Five Stand, Crazy Quail, and the Brush Walk. This year the team from Medinah Country Club took home the trophy, breaking 762 out of 1,000 total targets, and beating out teams from The Country Club (Brookline), The Country Club (Pepper Pike), Country Club of Rochester, Kirtland Country Club, the Longue Vue Club and CCB. The “Top Gun” individual champion was a member of the Country Club of Buffalo Team.
The CCB team was proud to show off our world class sporting clays fields, as well as the gracious service and outstanding food program the Club is often recognized for. To qualify for an invitation to the event a club must have a top ranked golf course, and at least one sporting clays field.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The event founder began with a vision for bringing together shooters from top clubs around the country to enjoy a weekend of camaraderie and competition. We then identified the clubs that met the requirements, and sent invitations. In 2022 we hosted four teams, including the CCB team, and the event was a tremendous success. Through media coverage of the event word spread and other teams requested an invitation for 2023. This year the field was expanded to seven teams, and required some tweaks to the itinerary, and competition’s rules, but again the event received rave reviews. The event field is expected to expand to 10 – 12 teams in 2024.
The event is quite detailed, and requires precise planning from the Country Club of Buffalo team. Teamwork is paramount, as almost every club department is involved in one way or another.
