Idea Fair
Spray Application Wand
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
When maintaining hundreds of ornamental plants, it is wise to protect them against pests. Applying a soil drench is sometimes required. A soil drench is when you apply a pesticide directly to the soil at the base of the plant. This may sound easy, but when you bend over for hours making the application it gets tiring and challenging. The equipment we had was not going to work for this application.
The answer was simple yet effective. We took some threaded PVC fittings and attached them to the sprayer hose and spray gun. Then a piece of PVC pipe was cut, and attached to the hose and gun to extend the overall length. The end result was a longer application wand to reach the base of the plant without bending over. The spray wand is also very useful for hard to reach places, especially around rose bushes.
This inexpensive addition took only a few minutes to make, has made pesticide applications more efficient, and has saved multiple man hours and physical strain on the body.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
This idea was implemented by staff without members realizing it. Members’ reactions continue to be positive because we have beautifully landscaped grounds with thriving plants.
