Idea Fair
Spreading Joy with Garden Surprises!
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The vibrance and tranquility of colorful gardens can help alleviate stress. At Farmington, we wanted our gardens to remain accessible and ever-changing to give our members and staff a peaceful retreat and an excuse to spend time outdoors. Surprise additions to the Club such as sunflowers in unexpected locations gave people a reason to smile.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Existing gardens were augmented with additional plants to provide color throughout the season. Working with a limited budget due to COVID-19, we opted to grow extra plants from seed rather than purchasing commercially available plants. This allowed us to add unique spots of color in new areas. For example, we planted large-flowered zinnias for the first time at the 10th Tee snack bar—our members could not stop talking about them!
