Idea Fair

Squash Pee Wee Junior Program

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Squash Pee Wee Junior Program is a group instructional program for children ages 3, 4, and 5. The new offering provided a formal opportunity to introduce juniors to the sport in way that ensured they were having success right away and also much more fun than a traditional private lesson. Since most of the program participants are either not in school at all or in school for only part of the day, sessions were also able to be scheduled in the early afternoon where squash courts are otherwise not heavily utilized.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Pee Wees, or preschool age, classes were added to the weekly squash program calendar. Professional staff used age-specific racquets and balls, as well as other visually engaging training aids on court. Parents have enjoyed the opportunity to get their children started in the sport at a younger age, especially in situations where an older sibling is already participating in squash. Juniors have enjoyed the group format and the engagement with the coaches.
