Idea Fair
Stainless Steel Straws
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
For years, Fiddler's has been on the cutting edge of environmental innovation to become a greener and more sustainable destination. From installing LED lights and motion-activated switches to restoring the streambed of the Lamington River that runs through the property. Fiddler's takes its position as a good environmental steward seriously.
This season, Fiddler's has continued that innovation and began offering stainless steel straws in our fine dining restaurant instead of plastic. The stainless steel straws are reused hundreds of times before needing replacement, and most importantly, keep hundreds of plastic straws out of the landfill and oceans each week. They are also a clear, front-line reminder of Fiddler's environmental commitment.
One of Fiddler's Elbow's goals for 2019 is to launch a green initiative Club wide. This will include switching over all plastic products - straws, cups, lids, to-go containers as well as paper products that are detrimental to the environment, all to environmentally friendly equivalents. Be on the lookout for the subtle changes around the Club starting in January.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The management team at Fiddler's Elbow recognized the amount of waste that the Club was producing and realized the negative impact that this has on the environment. We first began by replacing the straws that we were offering in the dining room to get an idea of how large scale this change would be before replacing other essential items. The members of Fiddler's Elbow are just as passionate as we are about maintaining our green status and have been nothing but supportive.
