Idea Fair
Steering Committee
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Board and management sought ways to involve more members in all areas versus individualized committees. The Board considered the time commitment of those serving on the committee, the number of monthly meetings, and whether this model kept all committee members up to date on all Club operations or just that committee’s interests. In addition to the Member's time commitment, the board considered the administration's time commitment as well and found that this would greatly reduce the number of meetings that they would need to attend. This change resulted in the General Manager and Director of Administration having 36 meetings less per year.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
After much discussion and deliberation, it was decided to create a Steering Committee to include more volunteers and provide information across all departments. The committee would meet at least nine times a year with the General Manager, Board Liaisons, and all department heads who will present their departmental reports. Half of the committee members will serve a 1-year term, and the other will serve a 2-year term. In addition to those finishing a term from a previous committee, new volunteers were enlisted to join. The Members have been receptive and excited for the new format.
