Idea Fair
Summer Science Series
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Summer Science Series brought engaging, educational fun to youth members with two unique events in partnership with the McWane Science Center, a local children’s science museum. The first event, A-MAZE-ING Robots, introduced kids to computer coding through Ozobots, miniature programmable robots. Participants learned to program, debug, and create line code art. The second event, Animal Adventure, offered an up-close experience with fascinating creatures, teaching kids about habitats, diets, adaptations, and unique traits. The series introduced a fresh approach to summer programming by focusing on hands-on learning and exploration rather than traditional parties or camp-style events.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We partnered with the McWane Science Center to design and deliver these interactive programs. Each event was hosted at the club, with refreshments and snacks provided to the children. The events were highly popular with kids and parents alike. Parents praised the focus on learning and the creative twist on summer activities. Several expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage their children in new interests, while the kids enjoyed the hands-on fun. The positive feedback has encouraged plans for more educational partnerships in the future.
