Idea Fair
Take Our Kids to Work Day
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
All retail shops, no matter how careful the buying, end the season with apparel that they need to ‘move on’. This past season, the Golf Retail Shops decided to do something different from the normal charity donation.
Our Retail Managers started "Clothes For A Cause." Normally, once an item has been on the sale rack over six months, it gets removed out of inventory and is donated to a thrift store. This year, those items were held until our next all-staff meeting and a ‘buying experience’ was created for all of the employees in attendance. The clothes could be bought with a minimum donation of $5.00 and could be payroll deducted. All monies went to CCV Cares, our employee assistance program with the mission of extending financial assistance to our co-workers and their immediate family members who suffer economic hardships arising from such unforeseen events as death, injury, illness, accident, natural disaster, or other personal or family emergency.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We had 86 items to sell at the meeting and 65 items were sold, bringing us a grand total of $1,035! The employees loved the chance to buy CCV swag via payroll deduction and helping out other employees with a donation. Now all CCV retail outlets, both Golf Shops and the Tennis Shop, are planning the next “Clothes For A Cause” get together.
