Idea Fair
Team Building Day
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
BHYC staff members were invited to a staff sailing day, where they were able to use the Club’s outdoor facilities and get a better understanding of the member experience! Not only was this a fun day for the staff to bond and get together, but allowed for an opportunity for the staff to be able to communicate better with the members, answer their questions more efficiently and be able to relate in conversation.
Working at a sailing club, only a select few employees had ever been out on a sailboat, but with volunteers from some employees who have sailed before, at the end of the day, dozens of key staff learned about the boats and were out on the water learning to sail!
The afternoon featured pizza, snacks and drinks - keeping the cost low by using already existing amenities, but keeping the spirits high! It allowed access to the tennis courts, boats, paddle courts and BHYC’s new bocce courts. It also featured games like ping pong, corn hole and kan jam for some extra time spent together.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
BHYC believes that several days a year, bonding as a team is crucial to the success of working together to create the best member experience. BHYC members often refer to the employees as “family,” so it’s important for the employees to feel that way about each other as well. Benefits included a low cost event, team building experience and a chance for employees to understand member activities.
