Idea Fair
The Experience Internship
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
We know that our club is a special place to be at; we also want our club to be a teaching facility. We wanted to give a college student and internship that allowed them to experience every aspect of a country club – from dining and banquets, to swim team and pool cleaning, to learning about agronomy. Our 2020 intern, Brogan, who graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, got to work in a variety of atmospheres to further his career in hospitality.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Each week for Brogan was different. He bounced from dining, to golf, to tennis, to swim and more. We believe this internship is special because it allows college students to get a glimpse of every area of a club, and not dwell in one particular segment. We also believe it makes them a more well-rounded candidate for a potential job, having experience in a surplus of different club settings. This was the first year we experimented with this internship, but it exceeded our expectations. Brogan is now a full-time employee at Champions Run, serving as our Internship Coordinator and Assistant Manager.
