Idea Fair
The Greenwood Cup Golf Tournament
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
With our recent complete renovation of the golf course and facilities, the members of ROCC decided to begin a modern chapter of golf tournament history at the Club by creating a Junior Golf Invitational, the Greenwood Cup. Each year, the Club hosts approximately 50 two-person teams, both boys and girls, playing 36 holes of four-ball competition. The field includes some truly exceptional juniors, including talented ROCC juniors, top locals and highly ranked players from many different states. The tournament is great inspiration for our ROCC juniors and a big propeller of the ROCC Junior Golf Program. It has become a great source of pride for our members and staff.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Using connections through our professional staff, schools and universities with leading golf programs, and the junior golf tour calendar, a field of 50 invitees are welcomed to ROCC for a weekend of championship golf. With the help of member volunteers, live scoring is broadcast on the tournament website, which provides a great way to keep up with the action for our members. Some of our younger ROCC juniors volunteered as scoring standard bearers, getting a true “inside the ropes” experience. As the years go by, The Greenwood Cup will enhance the reputation and prestige of the Club in the golf community and build on ROCC’s storied history of golf. Our members look forward to this high-level golf tradition and seeing some of the future stars of the game in next year’s Greenwood Cup.
