Idea Fair
"The Hard" Hat Minute
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
In February 2023, Doylestown CC embarked on an $8 million renovation to its Clubhouse spaces and parking lot. Members would lose access to 75% of the Club during the project. The last major renovation was 15 years ago, and many tenured members noted that back then they were underinformed and felt much was done in the “shadows.”
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
A multi-faceted communications strategy was developed to keep members as informed as possible. Two pages were dedicated each month in the newsletter, regular email communications were sent from the Construction Committee Board chair and GM, an 8-page overview guide was developed to give to guests and applicants, tours/updates were provided to key frontline staff so they could answer member questions, and a weekly video series titled “The Hard Hat Minute” was filmed & emailed.
The results:
- A) 50 “Hard Hat” videos - 37,500 views, 81% avg viewer retention to end, watch time of 1,100 hours, 670% increase in YouTube subscribers
- B) 83% avg email open rate for construction emails, 44% avg click rate on content/links, 79 construction related emails sent (including videos)
- C) Gallery of 2,000 photos taken; 180+ pics shared via newsletter or email
Overall, members were extremely happy with the communication frequency and methods, especially with the Hard Hat Minute. Many members have commented directly to senior management staff they appreciated the updates, especially when they were away for the winter. Satisfaction seems high from the campaign.
