Idea Fair
The Mercury
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Mercury has been the official publication of the Los Angeles Athletic Club since 1911. Now an annual publication, The Mercury showcases member stories, club projects, and special collaborations.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The content that is showcased in the Mercury is produced by members for members. LAAC staff members from multiple departments collaborated to choose the top story lines pertaining to the Los Angeles Athletic Club for the year. The LAAC’s membership, marketing, sports marketing, athletics, hotel, and food & beverage departments were represented. The synergy between the departments decided on the top 12 stories for the issue.
The ideas for stories were divided into five categories: The Club, Style, Lifestyle, Athletic, and Food. The Club category included ideas regarding the history of the LAAC and its place in history. The Style category included current trends in Los Angeles and features on club members that are involved in fashion. The Lifestyle category included ideas about the Club outside of athletics, such as wedding planning and club events during the holidays. The Athletic category features ideas centered around the athletic tradition of the LAAC. The Food category features the top food spots in Los Angeles surrounding the LAAC.
The mission of the Los Angeles Athletic Club is the pursuit of lifelong pursuit of health- giving amusements. The purpose of the Mercury is to inspire members to move forward in their own modern day pursuits.
