Idea Fair
Trailblazing
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
With more than 25 private miles of hiking trails within 3,000 acres and 17,000 visitors annually, Desert Mountain’s private trail system is a world of its own. Our outdoor trail experience is where outdoor recreation meets smart technology. It’s where preservation initiatives and international recognition come as a result of dedication, care, and teamwork. It’s where moonlight hikes are led by skilled leaders, and trails are built and maintained by a passionate brigade of member volunteers. Ultimately, it’s where nature is both enjoyed and protected seamlessly. Balancing active usage with preservation takes an integrated effort with boots on the ground at every level, including members, teammates, and community partners. Our idea is evolving the open space within our property into outdoor recreation opportunity that is both smart, sustainable and award-winning.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
1700+ members participate in trail activities annually.
- Interactive Trail Guide- touch screen trail map, with downloadable hikes for distance, difficulty, views and more.
- Leave No Trace©– the first and only non-public property to receive the national designation as a Leave No Trace Gold Standard Site©. The curriculum, led by our staff instructors, teaches Members preservation techniques, helping communities actively care for their natural resources. Other elite sites sharing this designation include Glacier National Park and Acadia National Park.
- Quite Parks International has designated our trail system as a Quiet Park Area. Sound-proofing outdoor spaces is good for the environment and real estate values, and this designation allows us to celebrate another accolade. Quietly, of course.
