Traveling Burgee

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

The Traveling Burgee was initiated in 2018 to connect our year round and seasonal Associates to the Club and our social media efforts while they were traveling or spending time in their summer employment locations.

The premise was simple; take a photo with the Burgee, post it to your social media and tag Ocean Reef Club careers. Once a month, we would select one post and that Associate would receive $100 or one week’s rent free (if in Associate housing). We mailed them out to our seasonal Associates while they were away for their summer jobs in the hopes that it would ensure they know they are part of our family even when they aren’t here.

Our Associates shared photos from Brazil, Colorado, Oregon, other locales in Florida, Cape Cod, Nashville and so much more. One serendipitous consequence was that on two occasions, Associates were photographing their Burgees and happened upon ORC Members in the same place. This happened once at a Jimmy Buffet concert in Paris and with another Associate in Germany. The photos were great fun but moreover, these moments helped reinforce that the Burgee unites us all as Members and Associates with the love for our Club and the Unique Way is Life we are providing.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Traveling Burgee paddles were printed and distributed to Club Associates. As photos of Associates with the Burgee started coming in, Members were thrilled to see the amount of pride so many Associates had for their Club. This shared pride for Ocean Reef Club has led to a greater sense of community between Members and Associates.
