TREC: Tulsa Run Employee Challenge
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Tulsa Run Employee Challenge was an event focused on health and wellness of staff, as well as team building.
Individuals signed up for a 7 week training plan with one of 3 coaches to either walk a 5k, run a 5k or run a 15k. For many it was their first time going their specific distance. Several other health and wellness activities were included to provide a well rounded plan of execution. A scavenger hunt was the primary team activity to encourage being active, as well as working as a team. The event concluded with the Tulsa Run, a local running event where individuals reached their goals.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Each individual was given a training plan, for their specific chosen distance, or race. Working with their coach each person would track runs, both as a group as well as individually for points, or stamps on their card. These stamps would be the ticket to free registration to the event at the end of the 7 weeks. Additionally, for extra stamps participants could attend nutrition classes, healthy cooking lessons, spin class, hot yoga, or a swim clinic all organized and provided by the club. The Hunt scavenger hunt was an event worth several punches where individuals ran around downtown Tulsa, collecting rabbits feet to earn top prize, every single TREC participant took part in the HUNT. All individuals earned enough stamps to gain free registration to their race.
Many members have talked about the great work we put into investing into the health and well being of our staff. The race being a large event, many members were along course to cheer on participants and recognized our staff in their TEAM SHCC shirts, and cheered them on.
