Idea Fair
Virtual and In-Person Events
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
As COVID-19 began to impact the community, BCC cancelled all Club and Private Events through the end of March 2020. To ensure the safety of members and staff, BCC was committed to our Simple Truth of Great People Make Favorite Places and we focused on providing quality food and entertainment through the means of virtual events and curbside meal (contactless) pickup.
Virtual Events:
- Wine Society – Our monthly Wine Society events were adapted to suit a virtual format via Zoom. We provided beverage tastings and hors d’oeuvres at curbside pickup the day of the event; members then logged onto the Zoom class at home. Participation in Wine Society events more than doubled compared to in-person Wine Society events the year prior.
- Thursdays in the Garden – Director of Horticulture Cathy Wagner hosted a live gardening class on Facebook Live Thursdays in April and May. Discussion topics included vegetable gardening, perennial division & transplanting, and planning for annuals.
- At-Home Spring Gardening Kits – This annual event was adapted for members to participate at home. Members had options of gardening kits to purchase and were able to follow along with Cathy Wagner in an instructional video.
In-Person Events:
- Hiking at BCC & Scavenger Hunt - To provide some normalcy for our members, the Club opened the back nine of our West Course for hiking, walking, and running on the cart paths. We even provided a nature-themed scavenger hunt for our youngest members.
- Drive-In Movie Night – Our Events Team transformed our staff parking lot into a drive-in movie theatre featuring Back to the Future. All food and beverages were pre-ordered and picked up curbside before parking.
- S’mores at the Playground - Since many members felt most comfortable outdoors, BCC opened part of the Pool Complex to allow members to bring their children to play on the playground and enjoy complimentary s’mores.
How was this idea implemented and what have been the club members' reactions?
The implantation of the above events was with the initiative to keep members connected to the club while providing fun and safe events throughout the year. The club was overwhelmed with the positive comments and notes thanking the staff for their ability to provide safe programming during that time. The members of BCC remained entertained and connected to their fellow friends and families which is one of the most important pieces to our success.
