Wellness Challenges
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Our Fitness and Wellness team is always looking for new ways to provide members with new tools to keep our members fit and healthy. In January, we pursued that goal by putting together a wellness challenge for our membership. When the New Year begins and those old calendars come down, countless people begin pursuing their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight or lead a healthier lifestyle. The only problem? Nearly 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail, according to U.S. News & World Report. So let’s forgo the resolution-making altogether! Welcome to the Chevy 31 Day Wellness Challenge!
Rather than face one ominous resolution that’s likely to leave you disappointed, join the challenge to accomplish 31 small wellness activities during January. A wellness challenge is all about setting short-term goals and creating small, healthy habits. On their own, these habits are not hard to adopt. But taken all together, they can add up to a healthier lifestyle. Every day, members can tackle a simple wellness activity. Some may become part of a new wellness routine; others may not be their “thing;” while others may become handy tools to use in the future.
During COVID, we have continually sought new ways to engage members when gathering large groups on-site poses a health risk. The Wellness Challenge engages members, provides educational resources, and opportunities to build healthier habits from the comfort of their own homes.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We launched the club’s 31 day of wellness towards the end of December through our bi-monthly virtual bulletin in addition to sharing it on the club’s fitness page of the website. There are links within the calendar that include instructions and educational resources about that practice or inviting them, for example, to join us to practice some yoga with a zoom link to the class. We have asked members to send us a video of them doing one of the daily wellness challenges to be entered into a raffle to win a complimentary massage. Members have commented to our Fitness and Wellness Director that they have enjoyed the daily reminders to try something different to help them on their wellness journey.
