Idea Fair
Whiskey & Wild Game Dinner
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Not all members are wine drinkers. This dinner helps include members to enjoy a paired dinner. The use of whiskey also helps build a stronger relationship with spirit companies that control the allocation of hard to get bourbons and whiskeys. This dinner has opened the door to other spirit based paired dinners with Gin, Tequila, and aged rums.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
With our club being nestled in the hill country of Texas we knew the wild game would be a hit. We wanted to do something other than another wine paired dinner. We knew we wanted to do a cocktail/spirit. We went with whiskey. We are lucky enough to have received several allocated whiskey over the last two years. We held onto them so we would have enough for a large dinner. We carefully selected the whiskey/bourbons and paired them with and elevated wild game dinner. For table decor we went elegant hunting lodge style. The chefs even grilled waffle cones right outside the room as part of the dessert. We had a local distillery come out and get them started with a tasting and educational class with a passed canape. The members were blown away. They loved the education on how whiskey started, how its made, and all the different styles. The wives, who were hesitant upon arrival, ended up having a favorite one and loving the dinner.
