Icon - CD CheckmarkFeatured Strategy: 2020 Theme – Focus on Connections and Community

Each year, an annual CMAA theme is introduced to give all CMAA members and chapters a common goal to work towards for the membership year. The theme is announced at Leadership/Legislative Conference each year and then shows up in various places throughout that year. The Chapter Relations Committee selects the theme at their annual meeting held in May. This year’s theme is: “2020: Focus on Connections and Community.” Think of how this theme applies to you as a chapter, your chapter members, your member’s clubs, and club boards.

As we near the mid-way point of the membership year, we wanted to check in and see what your chapter is doing to support the theme. Please keep in mind that the theme will play a big part in the Chapter of the Year award program, so bring up this topic at your next chapter meeting!

If your chapters has any examples of how you are focusing on Connections and Community this year that you would be willing to share with your fellow chapters leaders, please contact Erica Benjamin. We would like to feature your chapter in an upcoming issue of Chapter Digest.

Legislative Chairman: On Friday, May 15, the House of Representatives passed HR 6800, the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act. It would allow all classifications of non-profits, including 501c7 social clubs, with fewer than 500 employees to qualify for the Payroll Protection Program (PPP). The passage of the legislation in the House is only the first step in the process and extensive negotiations are expected with the Senate.

Further, regulation remains in effect as part of the Small Business Administration's lender guidance (Section §120.110) which deems "private clubs and businesses which limit the number of memberships for reasons other than capacity" ineligible. Read more in the Legislative Report.

Ask your Senators to support HR 6800 and add language eliminating the Section §120.110 exclusion through

Membership Chairman: Attending your first meeting or event can be intimidating – remember to make new members feel welcome at chapter events. Even virtual ones!

Professional Development Chairman: Many CMAA chapters have turned to webinars to offer educational opportunities during the COVID-19 emergency. Chapters have inquired how to report a webinar since there is not a “webinar” choice on the online reporting form. Please select the “education” option and indicate “Webinar” in the title of the education program.

New this year to minimize time spent on the survey, CMAA has engaged GGA Partners to map a participating club's chart of accounts to the CMAA Finance and Operations form. This option will help reduce the amount of time spent entering information into the survey. If you would prefer, you may choose a different organization to map your chart of accounts by sharing the Chart of Accounts upload with that organization and upload in the "Upload Files" section. More information about this service or how to use a different group can be found in the CMAA Research Portal.
