Icon - CD Checkmark  Featured Strategy: Certification Update: Expanded Competencies & Certification Maintenance Requirement Extension

The CMAA Board has approved two items impacting CMAA’s hallmark certification, the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

First, the CMAA Board approved a one-year extension to the Certification Maintenance Requirement (CMR) for those individuals who require it based on hardships related to COVID-19. An extension will be granted for those who qualify at the end of their current maintenance period.

The Board also approved an  update to the CMAA competency areas . This change includes a new competency area as well as updates to the current competencies. The expanded competencies are:

1. Leadership
2. Interpersonal Skills
3. Club Governance
4. Accounting, Finance, and Data Analytics
5. External Governmental Influences
6. Human and Professional Resources
7. Membership and Marketing
8. Food and Beverage
9. Golf, Sports, Recreation, and Wellness
10. Facilities Management
11. Information Technology

The Professional Development team will introduce the changes in the competency areas into the Business Management Institute curriculum. Once adequately covered in BMI curriculum, the update will be reflected in the CCM exam. Adequate notice will be provided to the membership before that change is implemented.

For questions on these updates, please contact the Professional Development Department.

Chapter Management Resources

 All Officers:
The 2021 membership year is just around the corner. Now is the time to start approaching individuals who may be interested in serving on your chapter’s board next year. New people equal new ideas. Start your search today! Consider including an article in your next newsletter asking potential candidates to express their interest in serving on your board.

Managing Directors: As we approach membership renewal season, please let us know if your members are on the move. Please send any updates to Erica Benjamin. Thank you.

Career Services Chairman: Remind your chapter members that CMAA's Job Boards are accessible 24/7. Clubs can list jobs from entry-level to CEO. Ther are costs involved with two of the boards and teo are free of charge. Take a look.

Communications Chairman: The Who We Are Fact Sheet is a great resource to share with the local media, other organizations, and even prospective members. Updated annually, it provides an overview of CMAA and briefly explains professional development, member services, and club services provided by CMAA. Access it online or contact the CMAA Communications Department at goodnews@cmaa.org for print copies.

Legislative Chairman: It is hot outside and your team is working extra hard providing sanitation and disinfection in your outside spaces – on the course and courts, at the pools and the marina, and in new, ad hoc dining and fitness spaces. Make sure these employees are trained and monitored as part of your club’s heat illness prevention program. Read more on the available OSHA resources

Follow the latest updates, including COVID-19 related stimulus package proposals as Congress returns to town on July 20 at https://cmaa.org/legislative.aspx.

Membership Chairman: All members that join in the month of August receive a complimentary Education-Only badge for an upcoming World Conference on Club Management. Please let prospective members know about this great incentive!

Professional Development Chairman: The CMAA Board of Directors recently approved the criteria for what qualifies as a “virtual program” and what type of credits are awarded for such programs. Programs delivered online that last three hours or longer are classified as “virtual programs” and credits are awarded based on one Club Management Institute credit per hour of instruction. This policy is for both national and chapter online programming. Any online programs of less than three hours in length are considered “webinars” and Association Activity credits are awarded based on one credit per hour of instruction. For 2020 only, the program may be over multiple days. Starting January 1, 2021, the program must be on one day to qualify as a virtual event. For more information, please contact the Professional Development team.

Research Chairman: Looking for COVID-19 Research? Check out www.cmaa.org/beprepared and select the Research tab to view all of CMAA’s research efforts on COVID-19. A webinar was conducted for each report and is available on CMAA University

Student Chapter Liaison: Every month, CMAA will be hosting two or more Zoom calls a month with one of our managers or coaches discussing a topic of their choice with 15 students. Encourage your student chapters to keep an eye out on the discussion board in the Student Member Community with updates on when these will be taking place. These calls will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure students frequent this page to jump on the opportunity! For the month of July, we have:

How to Stand Out - July 23 at 2:00 p.m. EDT with Shelley MacDougall and Kevin MacDonald
Moving Around to Move Up - July 28 at 1:00 p.m. EDT with Mike Meissner

Either post on the connect page or email Christina Krueger to sign up for these calls.

Wine Society Representative: Entries and applications are now being accepted for the Wine Society Wine Program Awards and the 2020 Warren Arseneaux Award. The deadline for both has been extended to October 1, 2020.  More details on how to submit your entry and applications can be found on the Wine Society website.

Icon - CD CheckmarkChapter Spotlight: Wisconsin Badger Chapter Presents Exclusive Virtual Tastings for Members and Their Club Members

With the goal to give CMAA members and their club members a unique experience since winemaker dinners and wine tastings are currently on hold, the Wisconsin Badger Chapter has presented multiple virtual events.

The first virtual tasting was wildly successful. Presented by Joe Wagner from Copper Cane, nine private clubs across the state participated and 170 members logged in to the Zoom tasting. Additional virtual tasting opportunities have included a June 16 presentation with Leslie and Rich Frank, owners of prestigious Frank Family Vineyards, and their winemaker, Todd Graff, and a July 14 Schramsberg Virtual Tasting and Saber Lesson. The evening kicked off with owner and vintner Hugh Davies demonstrating how to saber a sparkling wine bottle.

In advance of these events, Wisconsin-Badger members could preorder the wines for their members which were ultimately distributed and made available by the clubs. Members could preorder the wines directly from their club. The Chapter leveraged their corporate partner, BreakThru Beverage, as part of their “Partners Providing Solutions” program to execute the events.
